Brassai, the revered Hungarian-born photographer who took great interest in sculpture and literature, among other things, arrived in Paris in 1924 and began teaching himself French by reading Proust. Entranced by the visual constructs used in Proust's prose, the young photographer felt he had discovered a kindred spirit. This book is a collection of essays and meditations on Proust's writings by Brassaï from a lifetime of musing on the French author.
