A person is born into the world. And then? While big events and large structures dominate the news, every day the individual enters into his or her smaller struggle with life, yearning for happiness, acknowledgement or simply contentment. In seventy photographs by almost as many photographers The Pursuit of Happiness evokes an equivocal picture of the search for a place and a meaning of one's own. These are the private news moments that will never make the papers or the six o'clock news - the rare personal victories and the inevitable defeats, the highlights and the shadow side of life.
