To the Bitter End: A Photographic History of the Boer War 1899-1902

by Emanuel Lee

Publisher's Description
The Boer War was one of the first wars photographed after the availability of the Kodak hand camera; consequently it was the first to be photographed largely by amateurs. These images are taken from private collections and are previously unpublished. They concentrate on the final stages of the war, the transition from a 19th century style of war to the 20th century, the medical treatment of wounds and diseases, and on the terrible conditions in the concentration camps where 25,000 died. Lee's text credits this devastation with affecting black-white relations in South Africa which remain even today.
