Margaret Mead, Gregory Bateson, and Highland Bali: Fieldwork Photographs of Bayung Gede, 1936-1939

Anthropologist husband and wife team Margaret Mead and Gregory Bateson spent 1936 living in the highlands of Bali making notes and photographs for a joint project that was never published. Edited and assessed by anthropologist Gerald Sullivan the 200 photographs reproduced here represent an intriguing window into Balinese culture and photographic anthropology's foundations.
