Ethnoscapes - Icons as transplants

Ethnoscapes - Icons as transplants

by Ade Adekola

Ethnoscapes; Icons as Transplants; explores globalization and identity. It approaches the issues of globalization by superimposing portrait foregrounds of Lagos with background of other cities to create hybrid environmental portraits. The visual juxtaposition creates a space in the middle-ground where perception is heightened. In pairing the images in this manner Adekola reveals the tensions which polarize, the paradoxes of identity, the consumption homogeneity, and sometimes the quirkiness and humorous sides of globalization. The foreword is written by Prof Rajneesh Narula, Director of the John H. Dunning Centre for International Business at University of Reading
