On The Eve

In the spring and summer of 1998, as the Yeltsin era slouched towards its ungainly demise, Mary Berridge roamed the streets and parks of Moscow and its environs and shot a series of pictures that capture the contradictions of a society at once enjoying a still novel freedom and yearning for a new compass.
