It Starts With Silence

It Starts With Silence

by Richard Gosnold

'It Starts With Silence' is the first published book by Richard Ian Gosnold.

Addressing subject matter, which many consider taboo, it forms a photographic narrative around the illegality of abortion and specifically, how that law affected him as a man, husband and father.

It is a poignant story, in which the artist invites the reader to share his vulnerability, as he searches for understanding and solace. It represents his struggle to see beauty in the world, whilst knowing that he is powerless to help his wife and fatally ill daughter.

Employing photography, texts and ephemera, Gosnold communicates the complexities of his emotions, while questioning his sense of place within the political and physical landscape of Northern Ireland. A place to which, his wife was desperate to return, and a place, which he is still seeking to understand.
