Time and tide wait for no man
by Siebe Swart
Time and tide wait for no man is the result of five years photographing the Dutch sea coasts. In the period 2016-2021 I explored the entire North Sea coast, the Wadden Sea and the (former) Zuiderzee while photographing. From the slufter Het Zwin on the border with Belgium, to the salt marshes of the Dollard in the extreme northeast of Groningen. Using panoramas, I let the viewer share in the silence, emptiness and space of the seacoast. Photographs were taken in all seasons, in all weathers and at night and during the off-season. In short, a journey of discovery, but one with the ever rising sea level as a background, climate change ‘wait for no man’.
