Selective Memory
by Robin Repp
Selective Memory offers the viewer a time traveler’s glance into the private lives of a mid-century California family. Shot on super 8 film in 1959-1966, these images are the artist’s memories, sometimes chaotic, lifted and revisited as a moment in time. Faded, fuzzy and blurred, we are there for intimate scenes and family events, enlarged to abstraction and distortion. These unconventional works pose a digital riddle, and embody a photographic paradox. These uncanny postcards evoke the myth of California, and it's dream of happiness.
