The Concept of Style

A collection of essays by eleven scholars from diverse fields, all addressing the historical concept of style and its role in the arts and literature. Originally the product of a lecture series given at the 1977 Summer Institute in Aesthetics at Boulder, Colorado, the book is now re-isssued with a new postface and an edditional essay by the editor. Contributors include Svetlana Alpers, Ann Banfield, Monroe Beardsley, Seymour Chatman, Albert Hofstadter, George Kubler, Berel Lang, Leonard B. Meyer, Kendall L. Walton, Haydon White, and Richard Wollheim.
