The World is Astonishing with You in it: A 21st Century Field Guide to the Birds, Ferns and Wildflowers

The World is Astonishing with You in it: A 21st Century Field Guide to the Birds, Ferns and Wildflowers

by Amanda Marchand

This book is an ode to beloved, disappearing species in North America. The 5x7” book is loose inside a holographic cover, with a page of rainbow text, and a lumen print, all housed in a plastic case.

Lumen prints are made by exposing black & white photo paper to sunlight, bringing out latent colors in the paper. Every brand of photo paper has a different hidden color palette. The book's one unique, lumen print is unfixed and will continue to change color with time when exposed to light.

This handmade, artist book is made with archival pigment inks and papers. There are 8 abstract images of birds, ferns and wildflowers, plus one large image, “Field” on the verso. The artist has used her late mother's three vintage Field Guides (of bird, ferns, flowers) to mark/expose photo-sensitive papers in this series with each book's edge. The flora and fauna in this series, indicated by their titles, are on the North American endangered species list. Edition of 200
