This project emerged from a personal journey that began when my children left home to study abroad. Through images and text, I wove a narrative that initially reflected on their absence — the experience commonly known as the “empty nest” — but gradually evolved into an internal dialogue about my own transformation.
As the work unfolded, this inner conversation found release: at times the images appeared unexpectedly, while at others they were deliberately sought. The project is inspired by the philosophy of Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold, which embraces fracture as part of an object’s history rather than something to conceal.
Drawing from this philosophy, I structured the narrative in four stages. The first, “The Fracture,” marks the moment when something breaks, calling for pause and reflection. It is followed by “Gathering,” a process of collecting the scattered pieces and beginning the act of reassembly. Next comes “Waiting,” a period of patience devoted to understanding a newly emerging order. Finally, “Revelation” speaks to the possibility of transformation and the continuous evolution of the self.
At its core, this project reflects on vulnerability and the emotional oscillations inherent to human experience. Moments of rupture coexist with the potential for renewal. Rather than presenting loss as an ending, I approach it as a threshold — a space from which new forms of meaning may arise.
Ultimately, the work underscores the importance of persistence: the quiet yet radical act of remaining open to change, and of recognizing transformation as an essential condition of being human.
