Photographer Pengkuei Ben Huang has made regular returns to his homeland in recent years, drawn by the striking prevalence of temples on nearly every street corner. This project serves to document these cultural landmarks, illustrating this overwhelming reality to islanders while also seeking to reconnect with a society that has become somewhat alien to him.
In this volume, Ben collaborates with Howsem Huang, a Toronto-based book designer, employing a risograph printing technique. This method results in saturated colors that emphasize the surreal presence of temples throughout Taiwan, inviting readers to explore the unique spiritual landscape.
