Bunker
by Vincenzo Pagliuca
Bunker by Vincenzo Pagliuca is a journey tracing the remains of the fortifications of the Alpine Wall, a vast network of defensive infrastructures designed by the Fascist regime in the late 1930s along Italy’s northern border.
Focused on the region of South Tyrol, and therefore on the border between Italy and Austria, the project presents the imposing structures eighty years after their construction and thirty years after their decommissioning, exploring their relationship with the contemporary natural and social landscape.
The bunkers are presented here as a culturally complex legacy: at once emblematic architectures of the twentieth century and monuments to human fragility, relics of an era marked by nationalist ideologies, but also unexpected oneiric forms of dwelling.
