Folklife in Louisiana Photography: Images of Tradition

Over the years, the folklife of Lousiana has attracted many photographers who have documented jazz musicians in New Orleans, oyster fisherman on the Bayou, Creole cuisine, the Mardi Gras, and Cajun and Zydeco dance feasts. Frank de Caro presents an exhaustive study of those photographs and the relationship between documentary photography and the Bayou State from the nineteenth century to the present. The photographs used in the book are drawn from the work of many photographers including Clarence John Laughlin and Arnold Genthe.
