Thomas studies the influence that Stieglitz had on four extraordinary writers with whom he came in contact: Gertrude Stein, Sherwood Anderson, William Carlos Williams, and Hart Crane. These writers utilized certain aspects of photography in evolving their own individual aesthetics--selective focus, attention to detail--writings based on the immediate and the actual.
