American Photography: A Critical History 1945 to Present

Green, author of two Aperture books, Camera Work: A Critical Anthology, and The Snapshot, has written a provocative critical history of American photography of the past forty years. Much of his highly readable text takes into account important monographs, articles, and exhibitions of the period. Besides surveying the various aesthetics, Green also writes of the different critics, editors, and curators that have been among the medium's most powerful influences.
