African Ark: People and Ancient Cultures of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa

Photographers Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher spent five years traveling throughout the Horn of Africa. This large volume is a record of that journey. Although a region recently torn by civil war and decimated by famine, Beckwith and Fisher found it "a great Ark that has, for centuries, sheltered an astonishing variety of societies." Their photographs concentrate on the peoples of the region, especially their traditional costumes and lifestyles.
