Seeing America is a scholarly examination of five prominent women photographers who worked during the period between the two great wars. Doris Ulmann, Dorothea Lange, Marion Post Wolcott, Margaret Bourke-White, and Berenice Abbott are each treated individually and their work thoughtfully critiqued by professor McEuen who combines feministy biography with an insightful analysis of the images. What unifies this group of women is their committment to using photography to address social and political issues of the day.
