Crimes and Splendors: The Desert Cantos of Richard Misrach

Misrach's Desert Cantos series is one of the most ambitious and innovative photographic projects of the late 20th century. Over the course of two decades, Misrach has been exploring the beauty, mystery and abuse of the American desert. Ranging from a secret nuclear test site, space shuttle landings, natural disasters, and art performances, Misrach's images raise compelling questions about American society's relationship to the desert. This book is the first comprehensive survey of the work-in-progress, including more than sixty images which have never been published or exhibited before.
