Glimpses Toward Infinity

Gordon Parks, whose consistently innovative work is the subject of a major retrospective that will tour the United States and abroad in the fall of 1997, has never been one to accept others' limitations--in life or art. His sensibilities undiminished by age, his latest book is no exception. Here he attempts to photograph what he calls "the kind of geography where only imagination roams," guiding us through a largely abstract never-never land that begins where reality leaves off. While his vivid images border on the surreal, his accompanying poetry is full of word pictures that gently probe the subconscious mind and puzzle over the meaning of life.
