Large format photographer David Scheinbaum captures the strange, ethereal beauty of the barren rock formations known as the Bisti Badlands in northwestern New Mexico. In the 1970s, strip mining began destroying much of this starkly magnificent area, some of which has since been set aside as a protected wilderness. Scheinbaum's photographs document this destruction and record the land's transient beauty.
