George N. Barnard: Photographer of Sherman's Campaign

George N. Barnard was one of the most admired and influential American photographers of the nineteenth century. This volume presents the first detailed biography of this important, but hitherto neglected, photographic pioneer. Numerous full-page plates document post-Sherman battle sites and scenes of the South following Sherman's 1864-65 campaign.
