End of the Game

Peter Beard's classic book on the destruction of the big game of central Africa is back in print. In 1961 Beard settled in Kenya on land adjoining the property of Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen). Over the next decade, Beard documented the culture that centered on the African wildlife, finally evolving the body of work into this book. Over three hundred photographs combine in an imaginative layout with tales gleaned from enterprisers, explorers, missionaries, and hunters. Also included are a number of paintings by Blixen's house steward Kamante Gatura. A powerful and entertaining portrait of a rapidly disappearing culture.
