In Focus: Hill and Adamson: Photographs from the J. Paul Getty Museum

The partnership between painter David Octavius Hill and engineer Robert Adamson began when Hill's desire to accurately depict the elders of the Free Church of Scotland in a commission turned him to the camera. The relationship that endured between these two for the next four years produced some of the earliest masterpieces of the medium.
