Publisher's Description
This reprint of Brandt's great book, originally printed in 1951, is finally published here in the United States. It was reprinted in 1984 as a catalogue for an exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, but poorly reproduced. From 1948-1951 Brandt traveled throughout the heart of literary Britain to portray the scenes of imagination inspired by its artistic giants: Shakespeare, Hardy, Shaw, Austen, Dickens, and others. Brandt brings together examples of these great English writers' prose and poetry, and illustrates their sense of place with his own remarkable photographs.
