A beautifully photographed visual record of a hidden valley in the Himalayas which is the highest region inhabited by man. Isolated settlements dot the valley amidst mountains and desert; their inhabitants are dependent for survival upon yak caravans which traverse the region every year. After living in the valley several years, photographer Eric Valli is initiated in the people's ways and language; here he provides an intimate and beautiful view of the lives of Tibetan shepherds and farmers, accompanied by the text of anthropologist Diane Summers.
