Publisher's Description
This book was published in conjunction with the major retrospective exhibition of Paul Strand's work that opened in December 1990 at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. in honor of the 100th anniversary of his birth. Drawing from the finest vintage prints in the museum, as well as from archives and private collections throughout the world, the book includes many superb images, a number of which are published here for the first time. Most of the photographs are printed in a unique six-color process developed by master printer Richard Benson. The reproduction quality is remarkable--each plate looks like an original, hand-printed photograph. Sarah Greenough's accompanying essay provides new insight into Strand's personal achievements and professional struggles.
