Born in 1919 and a student of Paul Strand, Lewis Hine, and Sid Grossman, Walter Rosenblum has been photographing people and events since before World War II. This volume reproduces 140 images in a retrospective look at Rosenblum's long career. Included are pieces from his series on Pitt Street (1938), the Spanish Civil War, World War II, the Gaspé Peninsula (1949), 105th Street (1952), Haiti (1958-59), and Europe (1973). There are also texts in both English and German: a tribute by Shelley Rice and a history of social documentary photography by Rosenblum's wife, Naomi.
