Founded in 1952, the name Aperture is synonymous with important, groundbreaking photography. The reputation of what began as a small journal devoted to the powerful medium of photography is now legendary-Aperture is virtually a cultural phenomenon in its own right. This important anthology is an examination by Aperture of its own history, a celebration of the unique influence it bears upon the practice of photography and how it has contributed to the respect that photography, as an art form and a means of communication, currently enjoys.
