August Sander: Citizens of the 20th Century: Portrait Photographs 1892-1952

Now back in print! First published several years ago in Germany by Schirmer/Mosel, this landmark book reproduces in duotone 431 of August Sander's great portraits of Germans taken during the first half of the twentieth century. The photographs are divided into seven sections: farmers, workers, women, occupations, artists, the big city, and "the last people." This remarkable body of work was left incomplete upon Sander's death. Ulrich Keller and the photographer's son, Gunther Sander, have undertaken this reconstruction using Sander's notes and negatives.
