Light at Hand

Born in New Orleans and now living and teaching in Kentucky, Guy Mendes imparts to his work an awareness of place. The moods and concerns of these two regions are translated here with a comfortable, unconstrained eye in photographs of vegetation, waterlands, farmlands, people and livestock. Mendes reveals graceful plays of light and texture in his landscapes and studies, and a good-natured understanding in his portraits.
