"Snapshots : The Photography of Everyday Life, 1888 to the Present

This handsomely illustrated anthology, the companion to a recent SFMoMA exhibition, presents a compelling visual argument for the brilliance of the snapshot. These anonymous images include the most accomplished abstraction, personally engaged portraiture, the striking detail--in short, many of the major themes of twentieth century photography, haphazardly executed by amateurs primarily concerned with recording the meanings within their own lives.
