Dawoud Bey has been making portraits of people for more than twenty years. He uses various Polaroid cameras, notably the 20x24 camera, which he employed for a recent project with teenagers. A pivotal figure in documenting African-Americans in New York City, Bey makes powerful intimate portraits which reach a masterful balance between formality and sponteneity.
