Living Pictures

Indian cinema's poster art is examined in this publication from a range of perspectives to consider how its value may be located not just in its visual charm but also in its meaning within a broader cultural context. A large collection of mass produced images of brutality, suffering and swashbuckling heroism, religious devotion, intimacy, intrigue, nostalgia and uncomplicated titillation are juxtaposed with field photography and a series of investigative reflections by a number of different critics and authors.
