The Savage View: Charles Savage, Pioneer Mormon Photographer

The Savage View contains extensive text and numerous photographs from the early days of Mormon Utah. Savage's photographs include grand landscapes, bustling cityscapes, and interesting portraits of townspeople, indians, jailed polygamists, and railroad construction scenes. He is most well known as the photographer at the Joining-of-the-Rails in Promontory, in 1869. The informative biographical chapters relate his associations with the other great Western photographers--Carleton Watkins, Timothy O'Sullivan, A.J. Russell, and W.H. Jackson--as well as detailing a fascinating pioneer life.
