This facinating monograph combines aerial photographs of the American landscape with paintings inspired by the same, and numerous kinds of writings philosophical essays, scientific commentary, and art interpretive pieces. Ostensibly it is meant to inspire creative landscape design in the age of the aerial view, but somehow Corner and MacLean have made an art out of their study. Taking Measure is a beautifully engaging book.
