Sigmar Polke Photoworks: The Vanishing Picture

Over the last twenty years, Sigmar Polke has been experimenting with photographic processes, pushing the conceptual and material boundaries of the medium. This book is a gorgeously reproduced volume of his work, accompanied by scholarly texts by Maria Morris Hambourg, curator of photography at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and by Paul Schimmel, MOCA's chief curator and organizer of this exhibition. Schimmel writes: "Working primarily with his own previously exposed images, Polke subjects them to an unprecedented degree of manipulation, including solarization, chemical alterations, folding and physical manipulations of the paper, hand painting, and multiple layering of negatives." A handsome volume by an important contemporary artist.
