Martin Parr is the guest curator of the 35th Recontres d'Arles 2004. For this event, he has selected the following exhibiitons and evening show, divided here into three sections: (1) Contemporary (2) Rediscovery (3) Vernacular Photography.
'This year's programme examines photography's relationship with society, and celebrates the way in which the best photographers can provoke and stimulate. We demonstrate how a new rigour is evident in documentary photography, maintaining this genre's cutting-edge status.
