If you haven't seen an Ellen von Unwerth photo, then you
haven't seen the latest fashion magazines, advertisements, or
music videos. In just a few short years, this Bavarian-born exmodel has captured the attention of the fashion world.
Ubiquitous, bold, and imaginative, her work features the faces
and bodies of today's top models and celebrities, and gives her
famous male counterparts, such as Helmut Newton and Peter
Lindbergh a run for their money. What makes a von Unwerth
photo? Sex, fun, sex, daring, sex, theater, and yes, more sex.
But von Unwerth's erotic edge often gives way to romanticism,
femininity, and charm. Whether light-hearted and campy or
moody and provocative, von Unwerth's technical skill and creative flair are always evident. Whether she's borrowing a scene
from a classic movie or realizing her own futuristic vision, her
confidence and ease behind the camera make her one of the
most consistently fresh and fluid photographers working today.
Ellen Von Unwerth was a successful model before she started taking pictures in 1986. Since then she has participated in
several photography exhibitions including the 199 I International
Festival of Fashion Photography, where she won first prize. Von
Unwerth has photographed numerous international advertising
campaigns and has published stories in American, Italian and
British Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Interview.
Von Unwerth has also directed music
videos for N'Dea Davenport, Duran Duran,
and Salt N' Peppa. Her first book Snaps was
published in 1994, and was followed by
Wicked and Couples.
