Colin Shaw is a digital media artist and story teller using still images – singly or as a sequence, sound and video to interrogate the relationship between people and their immediate landscape.
His work has been exhibited widely throughout the UK and Ireland in gallery and non-gallery venues. Previous projects are housed in public collections including the Museum of English Rural Life and Buxton Museum and Art gallery.
As part of his commitment to reach new audiences he has developed a “listening post” with sound and/or image playback for use in remote rural and coastal communities. The posts are solar powered and made from largely recycled materials.
Shaw is also experienced in using online media and is working on the use of GPS technology to link mobile devices to digital media play back sources. He sees this as an important way to engage younger audiences and to reach people not inclined to visit conventional art venues.
