About David Knox
David Knox received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2005. He was a studio artist at The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center from 2006 - 2011 and has been photographing throughout the American South for over 25 years.
Knox’s current work explores such issues as loss, birth, resurrection, race, and religion through the inhabitants of an arcane netherworld set somewhere in the mid 19th century. Created in the realm of historical fiction, these photo collages combine historical imagery with Knox’s own photography of the American South.
In 2019 Knox received Fine Art Photographer of the year awarded by the Lucie Foundation in New York as part of the International Photo Awards. In 2018 three pieces were chosen to be exhibited in the Ogden Museum of Southern Art as part of the Louisiana Contemporary show - his work The Fall of Leviticus was awarded the Helis Art Foundation Prize of Best in Show.
Knox has been a photography instructor since 1996. His work has been shown in galleries in Atlanta , New Orleans and throughout the South and he is currently represented by Cole Pratt Gallery in New Orleans.
