Debbie Naylor (1971) is a Documentary Photographer and Lecturer based in Hertfordshire, whose practice sits within the editorial and documentary genre and explores approaches to life within current socio-political and environmental issues; asking questions about how we choose to live, hegemonic factors that may influence these choices and what it says about our society. Key themes which are informing and are representative now include identity, hegemony and representation as well as mental health which lies on the periphery of these larger areas of interest. Embodying a deliberate and consistent aesthetic that allows for narrative, an important factor within my work, to be explored in more subtle ways has in turn strengthened the basis from which I now create work. All of which has been informed by my recent completion of an MA in Documentary Photography and Photojournalism at the University of Westminster, London (2019).
