About DEBSUDDHA BANERJEE

Debsuddha, born in 1989, is a visual artist working with photographs, text, and video. He is based
in Kolkata, India, who initiated his journey in 2015. His visual narrative is deeply rooted in the
concept of home, a sanctuary of memories, woven with the delicate strands of intimacy,
postmemory, and belonging. Grounded in familial histories and lived experience, Debsuddha’s
works navigate the entanglements of identity, lineage, and affect. Through a sustained
engagement with personal archives and domestic space, he constructs layered visual narratives
that reflect on unaddressed psychological connections, inheritance, absence, and the fragile
architectures of kinship.
By focusing on his intimate spaces and relationships, Debsuddha aims to create a visual narrative
that is both personal and universal. His works serve as a medium to express his innermost
thoughts and emotions, offering a glimpse into the profound influence his family has had on his
identity and artistic expression.

He is the recipient of the Pollock Krasner Foundation grant in 2024, winner of the Images Vevey book award in 2023, and also a recipient of the Emergency Fund for Journalists by The National Geographic Society in 2021.

In 2024, his first photobook was published by Éditions Images Vevey in Switzerland, and the book was shortlisted in Les Rencontres De La Photographie, author book category, Arles, in 2025, and longlisted in Kraszna Krausz Foundation Book Award, London, in 2025.
