Edward Levinson is an American fine art and editorial photographer specializing in pinhole photography. He has lived in Japan since 1979. From 1994 onwards, his work has been regularly exhibited in Japan, the U.S.A., and Europe in more than 60 solo and group exhibitions. His pinhole and lens photographs appear in many Japanese books and magazines as well as in English publications.
His photo book "Timescapes Japan" received First Prize Award in one of the categories of the "Prix de la Photographie Paris 2007". He has published two essay books in Japanese: “My Way of Planting – Cultivating a Life in Japan” (2011) and “Edo's Lessons in Pinhole Photography - Photography for Slow Life” (2007) both by Iwanami Publishing. "Whisper of the Land - Visions of Japan", a collection essays based on the story of his life in Japan covering 35 years recently published in English by Fine Line Press (2014). His short pinhole movie “Tokyo Story” has received an Honorable Mention for “Best Cinematography” from the LOS ANGELES FILM REVIEW INDEPENDENT FILM AWARDS 2015 and is listed as an Award “Official Selection” for 2015.
He maintains a gallery of his work at his country home/studio in Kamogawa, Chiba Prefecture where he also holds pinhole photography workshops.
