About Jane van Bostelen

I am a British artist based in the Netherlands, working primarily with macro photography. My practice explores the quiet elegance found within nature’s most intimate spaces, inspired by fine detail and the simplicity of minimal lines and curves, combining close observation with a refined graphic sensibility to create calm, ethereal images of the natural world.

Drawn to the delicate and symbolic nature of flowers, I focus on their fleeting forms and hidden structures. By isolating small fragments and exploring texture, colour, light, form, and layering, I create images that feel calm, intimate, and quietly expressive. Each image carries a sense of emotion, connection, and stillness.

My background in graphic design strongly influences my approach. Clean structure, clarity of form, and considered negative space shape the visual language of my work, allowing organic subjects to take on subtly abstract, almost sculptural qualities. Through minimalist compositions and careful use of light, I invite viewers to slow down and engage with the emotional resonance held within these fragile forms.

Originally trained in graphic design at Camberwell College of Arts, I worked as a designer in London and Amsterdam before establishing my studio practice in Rotterdam. Macro photography became a natural extension of my long-standing fascination with fine detail and a way to return to my original creative passion.

My work has been recognised internationally. I was selected as a finalist for the London Association of Photographers Emerging Talent Award (2023), received a Silver Award in the New York Photography Awards (2024), and won 3rd place in the IPA International Photo Awards in the Fine Art Collage category (2025).
