Jinwoo Hwon Lee 이훤 is a poet and a visualArtist. Lee focuses on emotions between separation, displacement and isolation. Lee utilizes literary and visual languages to narrate his voice as a migrant. His recent works address an oscillating sense of belong and that of alienation.
Lee’s works have been exhibited in the Unites States, South Korea, China, Brazil and Scotland. Lee’s photographic body of work, , is currently available in online exhibitions at the Aviary Gallery and Life Framer Gallery; in the Broad Magazine Gallery; and in the Knower아는사람 Gallery.
In 2019, curator Mary Stanley selected Lee as one of the noteworthy emerging photographers and curated his work in the exhibition: <>. His photographs have been commissioned to be a cover/feature of magazines, books, photo-zines and other publication. Also, three images from Lee’s series are in collection of theInfinite Art Museum and an image from is in the collection of Life Framer Gallery. He is currently commissioned to publish an alternating photo-poem and photo-essay series by the PAPER Magazine.
As a writer, Lee debuted in 2014, receiving the NEW WRITER AWARD by<> Magazine. Since then, he has published two poetry books and a photo essay book in Korea. He also partook in seven anthologies (two will be published in 2021). On his second photo-poetry book, 『Let us not be too desperate우리 너무 절박해지지 말아요』, Lee received the EXCELLENT BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD in 2019.
