Jon Setter was born in 1989 in Detroit, Michigan, and currently lives and works in Sydney, Australia. Setter makes photographs which attempt to reveal the unseen aspects of urban spaces and architecture. Often working with subjects discovered by chance on unprescribed walks, he documents cities from perspectives not normally visualised. He methodically organises the colours, patterns, materials and textures of the urban vernacular developing an abstracted expression of space in order to understand the urban landscape more fully.
Setter studied at The College for Creative Studies, Detroit and The National Art School, Sydney. A solo exhibition of his work will be presented at Wedge Gallery, Sydney (2019 upcoming). Also in 2019 a solo presentation of his work, The Urban Text, was presented at Koskela Gallery, Sydney, in association with the Sydney Design Festival.
