Jose Quintanilla is a visual artist who lives and works in Madrid.
His work focuses on landscape and memory, environmental degradation caused by human activity, and spiritual exploration through nature. The supposed veracity of photography, such as ruins and abandoned spaces, the basis of a tailor-made story, the passage of time, and the transience of life are some of his lines of research.
His latest works focus on new forms of graphic expression, exploring the limits of photography and reproduction techniques, searching for movements and pictorial resources that connect with the more plastic side of his early career as an artist.
He regularly exhibits in solo and group shows, including:
2015 CEART in Fuenlabrada, Madrid
2016 Colegio de España in Paris
Barjola Museum, Gijón
2020 Complutense Art Centre, Madrid
2021 PHotoEspaña Festival in Santander
2022 Pompidou Centre in Malaga
2023 Royal Photographic Society, Madrid
2024 Unicaja Foundation, Cadiz
2025 Monastery of Santa María de Rioseco, Burgos
A regular artist at art fairs, his work is present in important public and private collections.
He recently received a Special Mention from PHotoEspaña 2025 at the ENAIRE Foundation Photography Awards, an award he also won in 2021, and second prize in the fourth edition of the Ankaria Foundation's 21st Century International Photography Award 2025.
