Julie Sundberg is a Sydney-based photographic artist and educator. During her professional life Julie worked in senior arts management and ran community projects with vulnerable people: inmates, the unemployed, the homeless and others relegated to the outskirts of society. Insight into the human condition and empathy for those on the margins takes visual shape in a broad art practice. Julie has photographed her daughter in an ongoing collaborative project since 1996 and worked with the performance artist Danny Abood for 35 years until his death. Her practice is now focused on making meaning from her archive and creating a legacy from projects related to time, memory, family and gender.
Julie has been a finalist in Australia’s most prestigious art awards and in 2023 won the Experimental Category at the Australian Photography Awards. She has exhibited her work in Australia and internationally regularly since 1982.
